MENTAL HEALTH DEMONSTRATION SERVICE PROFESSIONALS GRANT (MHDSP)

Programs, Activities, and Interventions

U-360

PUSD utilizes the Universal 360 (U-360) data management tool to conduct universal screenings. The U. S. Department of Education found compelling research indicating that children at risk for emotional and behavioral difficulties could be identified through universal screening and more significant disabilities prevented through classroom-based approaches to positive discipline and classroom management. U-360 is aligned with The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. U-360 includes adequate norms and is compliant with sample size and social validity.

Mental Health Interns will work closely with school administrators, psychologists and clinical supervisors to review the results of the U-360 screening tool used with all PUSD students. Students identified for therapeutic mental health intervention and services through U-360, or self/family referral, will be linked with Mental Health Interns. Under the direction of the clinical supervisor, these clinicians will conduct a more thorough assessment using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire as part of the intake process, as well as the trauma-informed assessment tool PREPaRE, implemented under this grant program.

PUSD utilizes evidence-based screening tools (SDQ, U-360, and PREPaRE) that will help to ensure that children and youth are identified earlier and gain access to treatment and other support services. Studies show that the way to integrate mental health services and shift the overall school culture is to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to support the academic, social and emotional needs of each student, linking each domain to the others.
