MENTAL HEALTH DEMONSTRATION SERVICE PROFESSIONALS GRANT (MHDSP)

University of Southern California (USC)

USC  supports this grant program in the following ways to ensure the MHSPD goals and objectives are met:

• Increasing the number of graduate students (MSW candidates) who complete their fieldwork hours at PUSD school sites from ten to twenty in Years 1 through 3 and to twenty-five in Years 4 and 5 (minimum).

• To support recruitment for internships in a public school setting, PUSD agrees to pay a stipend of $500 to each MSW candidate for each semester that is successfully completed.

• Supporting PUSD’s efforts in recruiting, selecting and hiring recent graduates from USC’s MSW program.

• Supporting PUSD’s MHSPD comprehensive training program with the Treatment and Services Adaptation Center, which includes: Trauma-informed Skills for Educators, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Support for Students Exposed to Trauma (SSET), and Bounce-back. This training program will enable PUSD to certify their employees as Trainer-of-Trainers in these evidence-based programs to ensure these specialized training programs will continue after the period of federal funding ends.

• Providing technical expertise in the creation of all policies and procedures created under this grant program to support increasing the number of mental health providers in public schools.

• Providing relevant data for the local evaluation of the MHSPD grant program.
