Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development

Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD) is a nonprofit mentoring organization located inside historic John Muir High School in Pasadena, CA. We are dedicated to building better men and changing lives through mentoring. MPYD has a goal through its mentoring program to provide a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the student, while pushing for academic success. Our mission is to provide mentoring, academic support, social skills development and career development to young males.

MPYD is partnering with PUSD in the following ways to ensure their P2 goals and objectives are met and the grant is successful in reducing violence in our schools and community:

•    Provide services to a minimum of 60 additional male youth on an annual basis each year throughout the 5-year grant period.
•    Provide representation on the P2 Core Management Team, which will meet monthly throughout the school year.
•    Work closely with the Counselor, Psychological, and Social Services Coordinator (CPSS) and the Juvenile Diversion Counselor to provide services to our target population.
•    Utilize the evidence-based Creating Lasting Family Connections with the target population and their parents/guardians.
•    Provide workshops to PUSD employees and caregivers outlining the services available to young men and teen fathers within the community, as well as support outreach campaigns.
•    Provide technical expertise in the creation of all policies and procedures created under this grant program to support improving school safety and preventing school violence in our community – specifically as it relates to at-risk youth.
