Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety will be used by our school social workers, trauma counselor, as well as contracted service providers: Social Model Recovery Systems (substance use disorder treatment), as a present-focused therapy to help adolescents attain safety from trauma/PTSD and substance abuse. The treatment was designed for flexible use -- It can be conducted in a group or individual format; using all topics or fewer topics. Seeking Safety can also be used with adolescents who have a trauma history, but do not meet criteria for PTSD – a perfect match for some of our at-risk students. Seeking Safety is listed as “supported by research evidence” by the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse; a Level A (highest) by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; and listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Practices and Programs. It is appropriate for both tier 2 and tier 3 interventions.
