Video Surveillance Technology

Six middle schools will receive video surveillance technology (CCTV cameras and related monitoring). The cameras will be placed at each entrance and Pan-Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras will monitor the front and back of the school building – including school parking lots, as well as hot spot locations identified at each individual school site. The camera systems will include remote access monitoring, as well as fixed monitors in the main office. Access to the cameras will be extended to local law enforcement (Pasadena Police Department and LA County Sheriff’s Department) and may be used during critical incidents, as well as general patrols. The camera systems will allow the schools and law enforcement to increase prevention activities, as well as expand tools for investigation purposes. School sites will be required to station one person at the monitors in the main office during arrival, dismissal, and passing periods to significantly increase supervision. The cameras will be integrated with the Incident Commander system implemented under our SVPP grant program.
